UCI Gravel World Championships

The event will take place on 8 and 9 October 2022 in Veneto (ITA)

A new challenge awaits PP Sport Events. The company lead by Filippo Pozzato will organize the first edition of the UCI Gravel World Championships this year. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has decided to reward the candidacy of PP Sport Events, that currently runs Veneto Classic, Giro del Veneto and Serenissima Gravel, a pioneer gravel event.
The 2022 UCI Gravel World Championships, open to the highest category for men and women, will take place on 8 and 9 October in the Veneto region. The exact location and further organizational aspects will be defined in the coming weeks.

UCI President David Lappartient said: “After the launch of a UCI World Series, the first UCI Gravel World Championships represent an important step in the development of a fast-growing discipline that responds to the desire of an increasing part of the population to get back to nature. My thanks go to the organizers of this event, which will enable some of the best gravel riders from around the world to compete in a high-level competition in the beautiful Italian region of Veneto”.

“Being the first to organize the UCI World Championships in this discipline is a great award, it gratifies us for all the work done and at the same time stimulates us to give the best of ourselves,” says Filippo Pozzato. “After being the first to organize a gravel race for professionals in 2021, we can now say that we are the first to organize a UCI Gravel World Championship. I’m very proud of this, especially because we share this ‘first’ with Veneto, my region, a land that has countless beauties to offer”.

“I want to thank the UCI for the trust it has placed in us” adds Pozzato. “What we receive is a very important signal for me and my collaborators. Thanks for their support also to the F.C.I. (Italian Cycling Federation) and the Veneto Region, in the person of the governor Luca Zaia. I strongly believe in gravel, because it is a new and fun way to ride, it attracts many new practitioners to the sport of cycling and represents an ideal means of discovering the beauties of our territories from a new point of view. Moreover, it brings a significant contribution to the cycling industry and to the economy of tourism”.

The UCI Gravel World Championships will take place in the same period as the second edition of Serenissima Gravel, of which PP Sport Events is finalizing the details. The first edition took place on 15 October 2021 from Jesolo to Piazzola sul Brenta and was won by the Kazakh rider Andrei Lutsenko of the Astana Pro Team.
