Share the Road Ride Marks Its Tenth Year on October 5th

Share the Road Ride

This event has raised over $200,000 to  benefit the programs of Soaring Spirits International

Soaring Spirits International is gearing up to host the tenth annual Share the Road Ride on Saturday, October 5. “Reaching this 10-year milestone is amazing. Soaring Spirits is proud to host this event, which serves as a reminder to motorists to share the road with cyclists. Our hope is that after 10 years, the message is getting through and that cyclists are safer on the road as a result of our efforts,” said Michele Neff Hernandez, executive director and founder of Soaring Spirits International.

Cyclists can choose from four courses – 100 miles, 62 miles, 50 miles and 25 miles, with ride times staggered beginning at 7:00 a.m. for the 100 miles, 7:30 a.m. for the 62 miles and 50 miles and 8:00 a.m. for the 25 miles. And, for those who prefer to participate in the ride in the comfort of their own home, there is the “virtual rider” category – start time – whenever.

The start of the ride and registration will take place at Lemon Park, which is located directly behind the Simi Valley DMV Offices located at 3855 Alamo Street. County Supervisor, Bob Huber will welcome the riders and officially declare the start of the ride at 7:00 a.m.; Huber has officially started every ride. The Share the Road Ride has been embraced by the community and this year several sports clubs will be participating. Once again, thanks to All Pro Bike Shop in Simi Valley, riders will have a chance to win a top of the line Trek bicycle (one male and one female) valued at over $1,000, as well as other great prizes, including cycling accessories.

To mark the 10-year milestone, riders will receive special commemorative T-Shirts. And following the ride, a “hot off the grill” barbecue lunch with all the trimmings will be served; lunch is served until the last rider checks in. Other perks include free massages and GU Recovery Drinks. And, new this year, riders will have the opportunity to take photos at the finish line in front of a Step and Repeat background.

The Share the Road Ride was started to honor cyclist Phil Hernandez, Michele Neff Hernandez’s late husband, who was struck by a motorist and killed while riding on August 31, 2005.
