With a reverse direction from the previous CBR Circuit Race, in addition to the heat and wind, the CBR Circuit Race #4 was a hard and challenging race.
Right from the start, like some of the previous races, a break would form right from the gun. Three riders including Brockton Smith (Team Velo Sport) Jason Cianfrocca (LABC) and Cameron Bond (Guillotine Cycling) would emerge to get out of sight from the field with good blocking from the Guillotine Cycling Team, LABC Team, and Velosport Team would keep the moves at bay and from reeling in the break.
As the race went on the riders with strong road legs and good endurance would start to emerge as the wind and undulating terrain took their toll on the remaining field. The break was holding strong until a few laps to go until Brockton Smith (Team Velo Sport) decided to leave his break-away companions including Jason Cianfrocca (LABC) and Cameron Bond (Guillotine Cycling) who attacked and went for a solo move.
As the laps were closing in to the finish, the pack started to ramp things up. However, Brockton Smith had opened up a comfortable gap which had him looking back as if he was expecting the field to close upon him, however, he held onto a healthy lead to roll in for the win.
With a few laps remaining the other two riders from the break would be absorbed back into the pack, followed by a counter-attack with Rex Roberts (SoCalCycling.com Team) and Austin Carroll (LABC) opened a small gap that stayed out for a couple of laps to go. The two-man break was eventually caught by a few riders just before the last corner. Just before they hit the last corner, Rigo Meza (S2C/BOSCH Primal) jumped the break and opened up the sprint for second place, and held off Rex Roberts (SoCalCycling.com Team) who sprinted in on a broken wheel to hang on for a third place.
