When we put our leg over the bike to go out for a training ride each day to be a top athlete, we try not to think about the dangers we face as riders and we put these thoughts in the back of our minds not expecting it could happen.
Sadly, we received the bad news that former SoCalCycling.com Team and current LABC rider, Osvaldo Mora, who is one of Southern California’s top up and coming riders and the current SCNCA Criterium Champion, was hit by a car during a training ride in Fullerton on February 9th.
Unfortunately, Osvaldo suffered major injuries including a broken jaw, pelvis, arm, leg, collarbone, ribs, and a punctured lung. He is in stable condition in the intensive care unit and underwent surgery for eight hours last Sunday and will need future surgeries in his recovery.
Anyone who knows Osvaldo’s calm and friendly demeanor also knows that he’s a fierce competitor underneath his humble posture and has the goods to be a pro cyclist.
I believe he will get out of this and recover like he was boxed in on a sprint and will be able to work his way to get back to the top step of the podium. We wish Osvaldo a fast and full recovery!
