On April 16th CicLAvia presented by Metro and in partnership with Accelerate Resilience L.A., connected Mid City and Pico Union with four miles of open streets for people to experience in a transformative, car-free way.
CicLAvia – Mid City meets Pico Union had three hubs: Mid City Hub on Washington Blvd (east of La Brea); Arlington Heights Hub on Venice Blvd (west of Arlington Ave); and the Pico Union Hub located on Venice Blvd (west of Hoover St). Hubs have family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, and first aid. In addition, free pedicab rides, sponsored by AARP, are available at each information booth.
In addition, there were many local gems, activities, and businesses to check out near and along the route – that were discovered through CicLAvia’s new Interactive Digital Map. CicLAvia was inspired by the ciclovÃas of Bogotá, Colombia, where streets are closed to cars on Sundays and holidays, allowing people to walk, bike, and enjoy the city without the noise and pollution of motor vehicles. CicLAvia’s first event took place in 2010, and since then, the organization has held over 30 events, attracting millions of participants and transforming the streets of Los Angeles into vibrant public spaces.
