Chasing Jerseys and Ca$h: CBR Finale and California Masters State Criterium Championships

The final race to the 2023 CBR Series was held on the fast .9 mile Carson course.  The CBR Finale also hosted the California Masters State Criterium Championships and a Dash for Cash format for the Men and Women Pro Events with  $50.00 on the line for every lap.

California Masters State Criterium Championships

After a day of fast racing, the California Masters State Criterium Championships crowned the following champions that earned Championship jerseys:

Women 40-44 Heather OBRIEN (Incycle Team), Women 45-54 Shari Stillman Corbitt (Serious Cycling), Masters 35-39 Spencer TANNER (Deus Velox), Masters 40-44 Louis TEJEDA (Padyak Racing Team), Masters 45-49 Eric ANDERSON (Bahati Foundation), Masters 50-54 Ryan DORRIS (Team Six Project Team), Masters 60-64 Christopher HAHN (Velo Pasadena Team).

CBR Finale and the Dash for Cash

With CBR jerseys on the line for the CBR Finale and the Dash for Cash format this meant it wasn’t going to be a typical CBR race since there was money on the line every lap and some laps featured points for the jerseys. 

In the Pro Men’s race, this made for an interesting race with the field maxed out at a 100 riders. None of the stronger  teams really had the numbers at this even, so there was a lot individual riders making moves. 

Breakaways had  hard times staying away with money on the line for every lap up for grabs. However, it seemed like it didn’t stop some riders trying to head up the road. 

There were several attempts with three or four rider groups trying roll away, which made the pace super fast for most of the race and took its toll on the riders. 

This would dwindle the field to around just more than half the field. With a few laps remaining, a break went clear with Ulises Castillo (Denver Disruptors) and Thomas Fuller (iSpeed Racing) with a few laps remaining.  The two riders would hold off the field for 1st and 2nd and the field sprint was won Alejandro Che (Velo Sport) for 3rd. 

In the Women’s 1-3 race Georgeta Ungureanu (iSpeed Racing) took the win ahead of Chloe Patrick in 2nd and Priscilla Savord (Incycle) in 3rd.
