Speeding and Speed Cameras Fact Highlights
Speed Safety Cameras Save Lives
Excessive speed leads to crashes, injuries, and fatalities especially for the most vulnerable – pedestrians and cyclists. In California, the rate of traffic fatalities is on the rise with a pedestrian fatality rate nearly 25% higher than the national average. In 2021 alone, 4,258 Californians lost their lives to traffic collisions, a 10.7% increase from the previous year.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), speeding is a factor in a third of all traffic fatalities.
Speed Safety Cameras Are Proven to Slow Drivers Down
Reducing speed is imperative to saving lives, and speed safety cameras make this possible. Already, 140 communities in the U.S. have seen significant improvements in decreasing speed and number of lives lost with the help of speed safety cameras.
