Prepare for the 82nd Paris-Nice!

The Paris-Nice 2024, also known as Race to the Sun, will have the top cyclists compete by pedaling across the picturesque landscapes and villages of France.

The 82nd edition of one of the most prestigious race cycling events is coming into view! The Paris-Nice 2024, also known as Race to the Sun, will have the top cyclists compete by pedaling across the picturesque landscapes and villages of France. But the idyllic scenery comes at a cost, as cyclists should also possess the wherewithal to cross the treacherous mountain paths and slopes that the route is notorious for. This grand race, as pretty as it looks, requires a lot of patience to get through. Here are some interesting points to consider when following the sporting event.

Top teams and cyclists to keep your eye on

For the previous year’s edition, the Slovenian professional cyclist Tadej Pogačar took home last year’s Paris-Nice’s top prize and title. However, he won’t be defending the title this year, since the race will coincide with his preparations for Tuscany’s Strade Bianche. Fortunately, the competition seems exciting enough even during Pogačar’s absence, as some cyclists are more than ready to claim honor and victory for their respective teams.

Fans are excited for the debut of Soudal–Quick-Step’s GC superstar Remco Evenepoel. He is a top name in standings among betting apps for his impressive times and consistency whenever he races. But this will be the first time he will compete in Paris-Nice, so expect many eyes watching for him.

Another name that fans are also anticipating is Primož Roglič, another Slovenian cyclist, during his time under Visma-Lease a Bike. He has won the Paris-Nice before in his career, but this will be his first season under his new team in UCI WorldTeam Bora–Hansgrohe.

Bike paths and rocky mountain slopes

Beautiful landscapes and villages compose the route that Paris-Nice will take place in. Its eight stages are designed to truly test the mettle of a professional cyclist but assures that the climbs are worth it.

The first stage of the race has a series of slopes and inclinations, most of which are considered as category three. It is an early challenge for both the GC and cyclists who are looking to take over the race.

For the second stage of the race, while the paths are relatively flat, it can be deceptive. Cyclists will be vulnerable to strong winds and leads might change fast because of the tumultuous environment.

Mont Brouilly will be one of the more challenging stages of Paris-Nice, since snow has a high chance of impeding progress among cyclists. However, it is also an opportunity to take over the race.

Stage five and six will almost be the same, presenting cyclists with a set of slopes, ending with a downhill finish. Sprinters will have to be careful with their pacing if they wish to lead the race.

Stage seven is a preview of the challenges that the real Tour de France may pose against cyclists. It will begin in Nice and will lead to a climb to Côte de Gattières. It will conclude with a summit finish in Auron.

But if the previous stages were hard, stage eight might be the most arduous path that the cyclists will have to go through. It features three category two climbs and two category one climbs in the second half of the stage, followed by a 10km final climb to the finish.

Paris-Nice is always an exciting event to follow, especially as it leads to the Tour de France. Casual fans interested in following the race should take note of the teams and routes, since this is where the drama unfolds!
