Once confirmed the signings of Javier Ibáñez and Alex Molenaar, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA continues to strengthen its roster with the announcement of adding Tyler Stites who in recent years has shone on the American calendar, where he has become one of its main dominators, and who has also shown his quality in various appearances in European races.
Winning Success on the American Cycling Calendar
Tyler Stites (Tucson, 1998) has earned this opportunity thanks to the achievements accumulated over the last few years, collecting podiums and victories in races such as the Joe Martin Stage Race, Redlands Classic or Tour of The Gila, three of the most important races on the American cycling calendar. In addition, this year he was second in the US ITT Championship and in 2023 he also climbed onto the podium, third, in the road race, despite competing in both cases against cyclists from the WT peloton.
Originally from Arizona, Stites has also excelled in European events, where he has shown both his tactical ability in breakaways and his good speed in small groups. He is also a skilled cyclist against the clock, although he has room for improvement in the specialty. He will be part of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA for at least the next two years.
Tyler Stites Interview
1- Why did you choose Caja Rural-Seguros RGA?
I chose Caja Rural-Seguros RGA because it is a team that I have always admired. The team has been around a long time and is consistently performing at a high level. I am looking forward to contributing to the team’s success.
2- What is your balance of the season so far?
I have had a good season so far and enjoyed some success. I am looking forward to the remainder of the season where I will be hungry for more!
3- How did you get started in cycling and what has led you to be the cyclist you are today?
I started cycling from a young age but I was not very good at the start. Over time I have gradually improved and now I am very excited to join the professional ranks.
4- What kind of rider do you consider yourself? What kind of races do you like the most?
I am an all-rounder. I enjoy racing on any terrain but I have found the most success with reduced group sprints. My favorite race is the time trial!
5- What is European cycling like for an American? Does it change much?
European cycling is raced at a higher level than in America, but still many of the skills I learned in America apply to European racing as well. I have done a good amount of racing in Europe already in my career so I know what to expect in the upcoming season.
6- What goals have you set for yourself for next year?
I aim to win a pro race. I also want to integrate well into the team and be a good teammate, and contribute to the success of the team.
