Report & Photo Highlights: Rain and Mud Bring True Cross Conditions to UCI CXLA

It was barely two months ago that Los Angeles Historic Park hosted the DTLA Historic – CYCLO-VIA! cyclocross race on a dry and dusty course overlooking the Los Angeles skyline. Thanks to Mother Nature and a few days of rain, the CXLA course turned into a slippery mud pit to bring some true ‘cross conditions to SoCal, which caused some additional challenges for the riders.

A stellar field fought for a chance to grab some of the valuable UCI points on the line over the slick course, while a hard core crowd, that was not afraid of getting wet, cheered for and heckled the riders.

In the  UCI Junior Men’s race, Tyler Schwartz (SDG) took the victory, while Alexis Ryan (The Team) won the UCI Junior Women’s race and Zach McDonald earned the win in the UCI U23 Men’s race.  Katerina Nash (Luna Chix) soloed to a victory in the Elite Women’s Race and Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) powered to a victory in the Pro Men’s Race.

Belgium’s Ben Berden (Raleigh/Clement) took the Overall for the Cross After Dark Series, in which CXLA hosted the final event.

CXLA continues today at Los Angeles Historic Park, so head out there to watch or race.
