Experience Car-Free Streets on Sunday, April 6
On Sunday, April 6, between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., CicLAvia will celebrate its 59th car-free open streets event at CicLAvia-Koreatown Meets Hollywood, transforming Los Angeles into a vibrant public space. This event promotes active transportation, good health, and community connection by closing streets to cars and opening them for people-powered movement.
Explore a 4.75-Mile Pop-Up Park
CicLAvia-Koreatown Meets Hollywood connects Hollywood, East Hollywood, Melrose Hill, and Koreatown. Whether you prefer walking, jogging, biking, roller skating, or simply spectating, everyone of all ages and abilities is welcome to participate. The event is free, and participants can join anywhere along the route from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
What is CicLAvia?
CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reimagining Los Angeles streets as spaces for community, connection, and sustainable transportation. Inspired by Bogotá’s ciclovía, CicLAvia has been bringing car-free celebrations to Los Angeles since 2010, allowing residents to explore their city in new ways.
Event Hubs with Activities and Amenities
The route features four designated Hubs, each offering activities, services, and meeting points:
- Hollywood Hub (Vine St south of Hollywood Blvd)
- Santa Monica Blvd Hub (just east of Western Ave)
- Western Ave Hub (near 2nd Street)
- Koreatown Hub (Wilshire Blvd west of Vermont Ave)
Each Hub includes family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, seating areas, and first aid. Free pedicab rides are available at each Hub’s information booth.
Getting to CicLAvia-Koreatown Meets Hollywood
There is no designated start or finish line. Participants can arrive via Metro, bike rentals, or group meetups. Several transportation options are available, including public transit, bike-friendly routes, and walking clubs. Nearby, Hollywood Boulevard offers 2.1 miles of protected bike lanes (Gower St to Hillhurst Ave), though these streets remain open to cars.
People-Powered Mobility Only
To maintain a safe and enjoyable experience, only people-powered transportation is allowed:
- Allowed: Walking, biking, jogging, roller skating, scooters (non-electric), and wheelchairs (manual and motorized).
- Restricted: Electric scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, electric unicycles, motorcycles, and other motorized vehicles.
- E-Bike Rules: Class 1 e-bikes (pedal-assist) are allowed; Class 2 e-bikes (throttle must be off) and Class 3 e-bikes (pedal-assist must be off) are permitted.
Community Impact and Legacy
Since its inception in 2010, CicLAvia has given nearly two million Angelenos the opportunity to explore neighborhoods like Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Culver City, Hollywood, Lincoln Heights, and more. By promoting sustainability, equitable transportation, and public health, CicLAvia continues to foster meaningful connections across Los Angeles.
