FSA SL-K Light ABS BB386EVO Crankset uses Asymmetric Bolt Spacing (ABS) technology with five asymmetric arms providing ultra lightweight direct power transfer.
This past year, I was given the opportunity to compete with the SoCalCycling.com Team where we road the Fuji Roubaix Elite bike coupled with Full Speed Ahead’s – FSA crank components. I’ll be discussing my experience with the FSA SL-K Light crank in my training with strength work, climbing and lastly speed work.
Getting to ride a new bike at the start of a season is a great feeling, especially when the components are to your liking. Working on strength at the start of the season, you produce a lot of torque while turning the pedals. I was pleased and was not worried about any flex to come up in the future from the cranks. The quality that was put in to build the cranks is what helped me constantly propel my training forward.
If you are looking for a crankiest to provide stiffness while climbing, I had a great experience riding in mountainous terrain of Yosemite with the FSA SL-K Light ABS BB386EVO Crankset, which helped provide optimal training in such high elevation.
Lastly with my speed work, I typically turn the cranks at a very high repetition per minute (RPM) for short and long durations. The FSA SL-K Light cranks were reliable in both settings. The cranks were up to par with my motor pace training as well. Motor pace training is essentially having another individual on a scooter pace you while on the bike. With motor pacing, cyclists training normally usually have lower cadences. While drafting, I produce the same amount of power while maintaining a faster pedaling cadence. I would hit cadences of up to 110+ RPM. The FSA SL-K Light crank still performed optimally under these conditions.
Now for the technical information.
One of the unique qualities of the FSA SL-K cranked is that it has a four bolt 110mm BCD configuration that is very versatile as it allows you to switch up the gearing configuration between gear combinations, The chainrings come in the following options: 50-34, 52-36, 53-39 CNC machined chainrings.
The unidirectional oversized carbon arms are hollow carbon to allow for a very light and strong crankset.
The forged 7050 aluminum BB386 EVO spindle length allows for use on most modern bikes that use a pressfit bottom bracket.
In conclusion, with my different demands in training, the FSA SL-K Light crankiest proved to be a quality product and exceeded my standards. Regardless of what your training or racing style is, you cannot go wrong with the FSA SL-K Light Crankset.
