Cycling Community Mourns Loss of Jackie Price Dunn After Velodrome Crash

Sadly, the cycling community is mourning the loss of Jackie Price Dunn who suffered brain trauma after a crash at the San Diego Velodrome on Tuesday night. Jackie was a relative newcomer to the sport of cycling and started racing in August 2012. But, from reading her blog, which is titled ”Pushing the Envelope of Possibilities”, you could tell she loved cycling and the challenges that competition brought and had an inspiring attitude to succeed while having fun.

Angel Castillo, who raced with Jackie, said, “She has been on life support since her entry into ICU on the evening of 6/18, and was pronounced officially brain dead yesterday (6/19/13). If you knew Jackie, this next piece of information, you would elicit an “Of COURSE”. That is totally Jackie…

Jackie is an organ donor, so she is being kept on life support until her organs are assessed and harvested. I think she ultimately would be pleased at the major life saving/life changing her last act on this Earth will produce.

She gave 100% in everything that she did and was a completely selfless team player when it came to racing. She would be on the front, working and working to get the designated protected rider where they needed to be.

She was a solid wheel and was just an amazing person in general. I will so miss her ever ready smile and watching for whatever move that neon-pink helmet was going to make.”

SoCalCycling.com extends our heartfelt condolences to Jackie’s family, friends and teammates.
