Race Face Cadence X-Type Crankset Product Review
By Jared Shimizu
Race Face is a company that has been making great mountain bike components for years so I was excited to test their new Cadence X-Type road bike crankset. The Cadence crankset is forged from 6066 aluminum with an I Beam profile designed to improve stiffness and strength while weighing in at a weight of 860 grams (also available in a 820 gram compact chainring model ). The CNC machined X-Type Bottom bracket uses double sealed cartridge bearings for a weight of 99 grams. Installation was as simple as it gets requiring only two tools, the splined bottom bracket tool and an 8mm Allen wrench.
About 6 months of riding and racing on the Cadence crankset and I have been very pleased with their performance. The crankset feels very responsive and stiff during hard efforts like sprints and climbing. I did a full inspection of the crankset and found the bottom bracket bearings still smooth, the chainrings had minimal wear, and the crankarm black finish still shining with no signs of shoe rub. I have had no problems with the crankset and the only maintenance has been the occasional wipe down to keep them clean.
The overall quality and performance of the Race Face Cadence X-Type Crankset is very impressive. For the price of $175.00, the Cadence Crankset competes with cranksets double their price. For anyone looking for great upgrade with a low price, I would definitely recommend Race Face’s new Cadence X-Type Crankset.
