Memorial Day Weekend provided cyclists with great weather to get out and ride or take on the challenge of competing in one of the many races that were on tap over the long weekend.
The State Team Time Trial Championships were held on the flat, but fast Lake Los Angeles course. The times were fast and records were broken!  On Sunday, the Barry Wolfe Grand Prix, which honors the memory of cycling legend Barry Wolfe, provided a great day of racing in Westlake Village. With the long weekend and holiday to celebrate Memorial Day, racers were treated to another day of great racing on Monday with friends at the 5th Annual Public Safety Crit in Dominguez Hills.
Sadly over this long weekend, the Cycling Community lost Chris “Cono” Contreras due to a fatal crash while racing on Monday. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.
While we all love cycling, this is a sad reminder that it  can be a very dangerous sport and it is up to us to make it as safe as possible while training and racing. Be careful out there my friends!
