Coming into the end of the season I was able to get some consistent training in for the GMR KOM challenge. This was the first of three events put on by my team Rock Sports Racing. The ride started at 7:30 in the morning from Downtown Upland. There were around a hundred riders that had started the ride. The peloton cruised through the Foothills for about twenty miles making our way to the base of GMR. The timed section of the KOM challenge started at the gate and climbed up 8.2 miles ending at the Shack. My plan of attack for the climb was to big ring it the whole time and go fast. Right off the gun I got out of the saddle and attacked hard splitting up the field. With only one other rider Moe Saurenman on my wheel we held a high tempo coming into the half way point in about 15 minutes. I was feeling good so I surged a little more and found myself rolling away from my breakaway partner Moe. After I established a healthy gap I put my head down and concentrated on motoring to the finish. I ended up finishing first place with a time of 31 minutes and 7 seconds earning a $1,000 prize!
