805 Criterium Weekend Elevates Women’s Races with Equal Prizes

B4T9 Women’s Cycling would like to invite and encourage women’s racers to participate in a fun filled weekend of bike racing in the beautiful Santa Ynez and Lompoc Valleys at the 805 Criterium Weekend – May 9-11. The race committee for this event is committed to supporting women’s cycling and is offering equal prizes for equivalent men’s and women’s races! The event is also strongly endorsed by the Women’s Cycling Association who is committed to developing and advancing the state of women’s cycling in the United States.

The racing starts on Friday with the Hancock Twilight Crit and continues on Saturday and Sunday with the Firestone Walker Avenue of Flags and Lompoc Valley Crits. These are not your typical Industrial Park Style crits, but rather offer some unique and exciting racing through the communities of Buellton and Lompoc and on an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC). Racers can enter each day of racing individually or can enter the entire series and be eligible for additional overall series prizes.

There is something for everyone at this community event with the Firestone 805 Beer Garden’s, expo booths, kids’ activities and food at all three races. At Saturday and Sunday’s races, there will be Free Kids Races as well, providing fun for the entire family. At the Lompoc Valley of Flowers race on Sunday, Mother’s Day, we will celebrate Mothers by giving the 1st 500 Moms a red rose! Sunday’s Lompoc Valley of Flowers had been awarded the SCNCA State Elite Criterium Championships, and as such the event has been granted permission to allow Continental Pro Team riders to race that day, however they will not be eligible for the SCNCA Title or Jersey, but will still be in the running for the event and Series Overall Prize lists. There is a total of $35,000 in cash and prizes for these events!

B4T9 Women’s Cycling said, “We hope you will partner with B4T9 in supporting this exciting weekend of racing in the Central Coast’s wine county. We understand that the Amgen Tour of California is having a Women’s Circuit Race in Sacramento on Sunday May 11th and some women have been given the great opportunity to race; we’d still love to encourage even those riders to consider participating in the 805 Criterium Weekend’s Friday and Saturday events on their way up north, or encourage other members of their teams to support this California event which offers some great racing opportunities for women. Also, B4T9 will be hosting our “3rd Annual” 805 Dinner Party on Saturday night – all women and supporters of women’s cycling are inviting to this fun event to get to know your fellow cyclists off the race course! Please contact Nicole Sweetland via a FB message for more information if you are interested in attending the party.”
