The Malibu GRANFONDO, Presented by Serious Cycling, in Continued Partnership with Network for Advancing Athletes (NAA), to Hold Private Film Screening of HALF THE ROAD along with their Annual Women’s Symposium.

The 2017 Malibu GRANFONDO, on March 4 and 5, is proud and honored to announce its continued partnership with Network for Advancing Athletes (NAA). The Malibu GRANFONDO is committed to raising awareness and funds for NAA, creating a forum for advocacy, and furthering the mission of its presenting sponsor: “to grow the love of cycling.”

Presented by Serious Cycling, this world-class event, held in the beautiful and iconic city of Malibu, California, is an exclusive weekend designed to attract cyclists from around the world, showcasing the magnificent Southern California landscape and ideal early spring weather. In partnering with Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, ASSOS and Vintage Grocers, the Malibu GRANFONDO delivers a high-end experience that aligns with those who train regularly, enjoy participating in challenging events and demand something better than what is out there.

NAA provides direct access to the support, wisdom and mentorship of elite, Olympic and professional female athletes. They believe the healthy pursuit of personal excellence through sport leads to positive growth and develops valuable life skills. Mentors are elite women athletes who encourage positive, fulfilling participation in sport at all levels by offering education and support to empower girls and women of all ages.

Women’s Symposium
In conjunction with the MALIBU GRANFONDO, representatives from Network For Advancing Athletes (NAA) will host a Women’s Symposium on Friday March 3, from 5pm to 7pm: “How Sport Mirrors Life – lessons from Pro Women on facing challenge,” Presented by Pioneer. Open to the general public and complimentary, the symposium offers a chance to dialogue with pro-level industry professionals including Alison Powers, two-time National Time Trial Champion, Brenda Lyons with Pioneer Cycle Sports, and Kathryn Bertine, Filmmaker of HALF THE ROAD.

HALF THE ROAD Film Screening
Following the symposium, from 7:30pm to 9pm, there will be a private film screening of HALF THE ROAD: the passion, pitfalls & power of women’s professional cycling, featuring Special Guest & Filmmaker, Kathryn Bertine. Modern society has long believed that women hold up half the sky in terms of equality and progression. So when it comes to the sport of professional cycling, why aren’t women receiving half the road? HALF THE ROAD is a documentary film that explores the world of women’s professional cycling, focusing on both the love of sport and the pressing issues of inequality that modern-day female riders face in a male dominated sport. Both on and off the bike, the voices and advocates of women’s pro cycling take the audience on a journey of enlightenment, depth, strength, love, humor and best of all, change & growth. Tickets available through March 2 with donation to NAA.

The Malibu GRANFONDO: Women’s Symposium and Day One hosted by Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village; Day Two hosted by Vintage Grocers Malibu. Offering pro-level on-course support, gourmet rest stops, catered receptions, concierge services, post ride massage, bike wash/valet, and forums for advocacy, Malibu GRANFONDO is the Complete Cycling Experience.
