The 36th Annual Solvang Century, Metric & Half Century which kicks off the cycling season in early Spring will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2018. The event is organized by the SCOR Cardiac Cyclists Club as an annual fundraiser for three children’s congenital heart disease summer camps. This event is a “bucket list” ride which explains its long-standing popularity and durability.
The Start/Finish will again be at the beautiful Hotel Corque in downtown Solvang and will feature a Cycling Festival with over 25 vendors, BBQ lunch, live DJ, massage therapists and raffle. Sponsors include Peloton magazine, Clif Bar, SPIZ, Velotubes, Chamois Butt’r, PACE Sportswear, JAX Bicycles and PJ Pickle Juice to name a few.
There are three route choices (100, 70 or 50 miles) through the scenic Santa Ynez Valley and Central Coast area with 6 different SAG stops scattered around the 3 courses. The elevation gains are 4950, 3500 and 1850 feet respectively.The roads are 90% rural and lightly traveled by vehicles. There will also be 12 roving SAG vehicles and mechanics provided by JAX Bicycles, SRAM and Pat’s 605 Cyclery at the Start/Finish and at all SAG stops. Velotubes is donating one free tube for every rider that will be in their Goody Bag along with samples from Clif Bar, Mahatma Rice and Chamois Butt’r.

The three congenital heart disease summer camps we donate to are Camp Bon Couer in Louisiana, Camp del Corazon on Catalina Island and Camp Taylor in Modesto. Each provides a unique summer camping experience for children and teenagers up to age 18 who were born with severe congenital heart defects and often have 2, 3 or more surgeries to correct multiple defects. As such, they are often physically restricted by their parents and family doctors and live inactive lives. These camps allow them to participate in many of the same activities we all did as normal healthy kids, but under the supervision of cardiac nurses and a cardiologist. Pre-registration for the 2018 Solvang Century, Metric and Half Century ride will be open until midnight February 21st through our website. Day-of-Event Registration will be open at the Hotel Corque in Solvang Friday evening March 9th from 6 to 10 pm and on Saturday morning, March 10th from 6 to 9:30 am. Volunteers are always welcomed.
