Product Review: FSA PowerBox Carbon Crankset

FSA Powerbox Carbon Cranks

The FSA PowerBox Carbon crankset is a sturdy, handsome watt-output-measuring crankset that would fit well in any build. The clear coat lets the carbon layup shine, and overall the crank has a solid build quality and a sharp look.

Installation and setup were a breeze. Utilizing the new BB386 standard the crankset has a nice wide platform to support the oversized spindle. Just throw in the necessary spacers and tighten the single 10mm Allen bolt and they’re ready to pedal.

Pairing the crank to my head unit with Ant+ took one try and under a minute, and with that, I was ready to go out and crush some horrendous intervals while staring at my Garmin and wondering why I can’t ever cross the 1200w mark.

After logging roughly 4,500 miles on the crankset during this racing season I can happily report zero issues with the crankset itself. It’s run smoothly and has been maintenance free with the exception of one battery change – which is great compared with the 2 or 3 my previous power meter would have gone through in the same period. The power reading has also been very steady and accurate, with very few spikes or dropouts.

If you’re looking for an alternative to the bigger name brands in cranks and to save a little cash while still getting a top performing carbon power meter crankset, the FSA PowerBox Carbon is a great option.

The FSA PowerBox Carbon retails for $ 1,189.99.  FSA also offers the more affordable  FSA PowerBox Alloy crank which retails for $648.99.
