This year LUX expanded their junior development program to include an elite junior woman’s team with the goal of offering the same stage race based development program that the junior men of LUX have. So far the women of LUX have raced the Valley of the Sun in Arizona, Tour of the Southern Highlands in Georgia, Redlands Cycling Classic and San Dimas Stage Race in California and Tour of the Gila in New Mexico. Additionally, four of the women were selected to represent the United States as part of the US National Team in three Nationals Cup races: Italy, Belgium and Holland.
LUX Women’s program has already shown benefits of higher level of fitness, experience and performance for their 16, 17 and 18 year old riders. With funds being exhausted, the LUX Women’s Team is seeking supporters and donors to contribute to fund additional racing and development. They will be supporting the team at the upcoming Cascade Classic in Oregon and the National Championships in Maryland. A final goal of the year is to bring the riders over to Europe in September to do the Rás na mBan (Women’s Tour of Ireland).
The LUX Women’s Team is the only Junior Woman’s development program in the country that has an extensive national stage race schedule that offers professional level support and instruction to prepare these women for the next steps in racing and in life.
Donations to assist the team to accomplish their goals can be made here.
