Participants Needed for a Cycling Research Study

“Association between Rider’s Height and Riding Comfort, Pain, Frequency and Duration.”

Cycling Research Crank Length

Mary Jane Bouman is an Exercise Science graduate student at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and is currently performing a study entitled “Association between Rider’s Height and Riding Comfort, Pain, Frequency and Duration.” Bouman explained, “It is possible that shorter riders experience more pain and discomfort due to the length of the industry-standard crankarm and we are trying to understand if there is indeed is an association.”

Cyclists can participate or access the survey directly through the provided link below. Participation is completely voluntary.

About the Study and How to Participate as described by Mary Jane Bouman:

We are recruiting road cyclists for a study to look at the association between a rider’s height and comfort and pain while riding a bike.

To be eligible, you must be 18 years or older and ride a road bike at least 1 time per week for the previous 12 months. Participation is simple, fill out the 20-minute survey within 1-hour of your next regular weekly ride.

The survey can be accessed through this link You will be ask about demographics, bike frame size, regular cycling characteristics like frequency and duration, beliefs around comfort and pain on the bike, bike fit history, and finally the level of comfort or pain experienced during your most recent ride.

The risks associated with participation in this study are minimal; however, a risk of breach of confidentiality always exists. We will make every attempt to reduce these risks by keeping your identity anonymous and securing survey data. You may not directly benefit from participating in this study; however, your participation will provide valuable insight as to the appropriateness of current standard for crankarm length on road bikes.
