IMBA’s Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
Inspires the Next Generation of Riders
Imagine a trail filled with kids’ laughter, muddy smiles, and parents cheering as their little rippers conquer a climb. That’s the magic of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD), a tradition IMBA helped establish over twenty years ago when Congress officially recognized the first Saturday in October as a national day to ride.
Every year since, communities across the country have come together—local clubs, schools, volunteers, and IMBA’s Local Member Organizations—to welcome thousands of kids to trails and parks. And the beauty of mountain biking? Nobody sits on the sidelines. Kids, parents, and friends all ride, struggle, cheer, and celebrate together.
A Family Sport with No Sidelines
As IMBA’s No Sidelines blog reminds us, trails do more than just take us places—they teach life skills, build confidence, and create the kind of muddy memories families never forget. Whether it’s a mobile bike park popping up in town, a scavenger hunt on singletrack, or a seasoned racer mentoring a brand-new kid, the opportunities in 2025 are endless for kids to discover the freedom of two wheels.
Join the Celebration on October 4th, 2025
So, mark your calendars for Saturday, October 4th. Grab your family, find a fun trail, maybe even ride for ice cream, and join the celebration. Don’t forget to share your adventure with #TKMBD and show the world just how rad kids on bikes can be.
