The Cycling Community sadly lost one of our own yesterday when Christopher “Cono” Contreras was fatally injured in a tragic crash at the 5th Annual Public Safety Crit. By all accounts, Chris was excited to spend Memorial Day at the races with his family, Time-Velo Pasadena teammates and friends.
We had the pleasure of meeting Chris at Interbike last year and then to collaborate with him on the Fortune 700 Race to the End of Summer Sessions, which he created. The Fortune 700 Race to the End of Summer Sessions invited riders to use any bike type; Fixed, single speed, fully geared, road, cyclocross, MTB, cruiser, bmx, whatever you had, you could compete on as long as you had a helmet.
Chris was very passionate about cycling and had a deep history in the sport that went back to racing in the 80’s. In talking with Chris, he was interested in growing the sport and involving riders in the fixie scene and exposing them to racing, with the hopes that one day these riders might think road cycling was cool and compete.
We are glad we got the chance to meet Chris and be a part of his passion for cycling and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, Team and friends.
