For the ninth year in a row, the Ladera Ranch Grand Prix of Cycling will take place in the beautiful community nestled in the foothills of south Orange County California, on May 31st. The SmartStop Self Storage Ladera Ranch Grand Prix is unique in that it offers a closed course on the roads of a planned community. Centered in the community is Founders Park in which you will find almost any sport being played in the open fields during any given weekend. The weekend of the Grand Prix, the roads around the park are closed and bicycle racers from around the globe come to Orange County to try their might against the elite of SoCal. Last year, SmartStop Self Storage Cycling Team’s very own Shane Kline, from SmartStop took the win away from the SoCal racers. Several teams showed up last year to lead out their team leader for the win, but it was SmartStop who delivered their guy in the end. You can expect some of the fastest lap times from past years to be broken, as fitness of these riders will be at their peak. Racing starts at 8am and will run throughout the day until the Pro race at 4pm. Several categories from beginner Category 5 racers, 55/60+, Women, and of course the event of the day with Professional riders from around the country battling it out on the .7 mile looped course.
Kids Race
In addition to the exciting elite racing, each year the Ladera Ranch Grand Prix presented by SmartStop will take a lunch break and allow kids from around the neighborhood to earn bragging rights for the year, and tell their friend that they are the fastest on their bike. The kids will be broken up into age groups, with the younger ages racing for about 200 yards. Kids beginning at 8 yrs. old will do a full lap of the race course to get the true flavor of what cycling is about. You’ll see kids out there with full race bikes and gear to immolate their racing parents, and you’ll see tiny tots out there with their training wheel pedaling as fast as they can to get to that medal across the finish line. SmartStop is proud to sponsor these events and is looking forward to May 31st.
