Hillclimb World and American Champions return to Santa Barbara on October 19, 2019 to defend their jerseys! First to the top of the (in)famous Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara gets the coveted World Champion jersey, and first Americans get the stars and stripes. Jerseys awarded for pros, juniors, masters, Clydesdale/Athena, tandem, and fixed gears, and the UCI is NOT invited, so your bike can be as light as you want!
With a distance of 7 miles at 7%, Gibraltar is one of the toughest climbs in North America with by far the most pedigree. Come see how you stack up against other racers and Egan Bernal’s KOM from the Amgen Tour of California.
A good result at Hillclimb Worlds will go to the top of your resume, but it’s not just for climbing specialists. Hillclimb Worlds is a bike race mullet: “competition at the front, but a party at the back.” Test out your Halloween costumes or your speedo and have a good time. For non-racers, we also have a fully-supported Fondo route, with a challenging finish up Gibraltar Rd., timed so you can watch and cheer for the racers as they come by.
Known as the American Riviera, Santa Barbara offers a gorgeous backdrop for a world-class event. It’s a great place for cycling, with temperatures staying between 50 and 80º year-round, but bring the family to enjoy the beautiful beaches, iconic architecture and award-winning wine country.
