Over the Hump Mountain Bike Series Cancels 2020 Events

Over the Hump Mountain Bike Series

The popular Orange County Over the Hump Mountain Bike Series has, unfortunately, had to postpone its 2020 season indefinitely. This is sad news for the Southern California cycling community who enjoy participating in Over the Hump’s fun summertime series of mid-week, evening mountain bike events.

Matt Wenger, Chief Evangelist of The Enthusiast Group, Inc explained, “As we celebrated 10 years last season, we never in our wildest dreams thought we might not be together in 2020.  Sadly, today we have to announce that OTH will not be able to take place this summer.  We know these are challenging times for everyone, but we always hoped OTH would be a bright spot this summer after all this COVID news.

Turns out, we’re not different from all the other events that have preceded us. Events during COVID are canceling for all the known challenges. We are simply not able to get our permits nor adjust the plan to meet even a “possible” 2020 operating date. So we must cancel 2020 Over the Hump because we can’t produce our party that happens to be a bike race, any attempt to do time trials and virtual races is just not what Over the Hump is and we won’t do our sponsors or racers that disservice.

Please know that we have done everything in our power to try and run the race.  We’ve looked at all kinds of modified plans and options.  However, in the end there was just not a way to safely operate the race and stay in compliance with local regulations while providing our community with the TRUE OTH Experience.  We take this decision seriously and have consulted with the county, our sponsors and the community.
