Hincapie Wins in Santa Barbara, Landis Still Leads Tour of California
2/24/06 - Thousands of spectators lined the course as the riders blazed out of San Luis Obispo at an average speed of almost 30 mph to begin the 105.3-mile course to Santa Barbara, and a bevy of attacks kept speeds high throughout the day. Shortly after the second large group was reabsorbed on the open and flat roads into Orcutt, four riders were able to slide off the front of the field to gain a significant advantage as the course turned toward hilly terrain in Santa Barbara County. The four-man group included German Jens Voigt (GER) of Team CSC, Sebastian Lang (GER) of Gerolsteiner, ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games time trial medalist Viatcheslav Ekimov (RUS) from Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team, and American Nick Reistad (USA) from California-based Team Jelly Belly. Halfway up the climb, Levi Leipheimer (USA) of Gerolsteiner and Ricardo Ricco (ITA) of Prodir-Saunier Duval joined the front group and established a 22" lead on the field at the summit of the KOM, with Leipheimer leading over the top of the climb. 40 riders regrouped on the descent. With a similar finishing dynamic to Stage Two, George Hincapie showed that he is one of the fastest men out of a select group by winning the sprint and taking his second stage in the Amgen Tour of California.

Haedo Sprints to Another Win in SLO, Landis Holds onto the Lead
Juan Jose Haedo swept across the finish line in a tight sprint for his second Tour win today in Stage 4, “the Queen Stage” of the Amgen Tour of California. The four-time Argentinean national champion, who won Stage 1 in Santa Rosa, did it again in San Luis Obispo, outpacing Fred Rodriguez (Davitamon-Lotto) and Andre Korff (T-Mobile) at the finish line of the longest stage of the Tour, a 130-mile run down the coast and inland from Monterey. Haedo gave all the credit to his team on the toughest day of racing for Toyota-United.

Landis Wins Time Trial, Takes Over Lead at Amgen Tour of California
2/22/06 - Murrieta's Floyd Landis (Phonak) powered to a TT victory putting over 25 seconds on David Zabriskie (CSC) on the rolling 17 mile San Jose course. Leipheimer didn't have his best day, suffering in the wind and put in a time of 37:15. Perhaps the hard effort yesterday up Sierra Road took a little out of the legs.

Hincapie Sprints to Victory and the Leaders Jersey in Stage 2 of TOC
2/21/06 - Today's stage took the riders through the hills of the East Bay with a Category One climb and KOM competition 22 miles before the finish in San Jose. The race was animated early on, with Mike Creed (TIAA-CREF), Ben Jacques-Maynes (Kodak-Sierra Nevada) and Mads Kaggestad (Crédit Agricole) getting over 6 minutes on the field. As the main field hit the main climb, the field detonated in their 27 tooth cogs and the break was caught. The KOM was taken by Kohl (T-Mobile) then Leipheimer (Gerolsteiner) and Landis (Phonak). After regrouping on the descent, a lead group of 23 headed into San Jose with Hincapie (Discovery) out sprinting Davitamon-Lotto teammates Chris Horner and Josep Jufre Pou. This puts my favorite, Hincapie, in the Leaders Jersey.
